I’ve been wanting to make my own lemon sugar scrub for quite sometime. I’ve previously made brown sugar scrubs which I love in winter since it’s so warm and yummy smelling. For an energizing yet indulgent change, I wanted to go citrus. I was inspired to try out a lemongrass essential oil in the scrub from my trip to the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa last weekend. I chose the lemongrass infused oil for my massage. I typically go lavender but I was feeling adventurous that day and it was amazing. I would suggest using this scrub for your body since I’m afraid it’s too rough for your face.
I looked around on the web to get some ideas for my scrub already knowing I wanted to use the lemongrass and found a few that use certain types of sugar or certain oils and maybe even some that include salt. I liked the idea of adding some sea salt from Carlee at Deliciously Organized and the way Joy from Joy the Baker uses vegetable glycerin. She’s totally right about it leaving your skin soft and happy. In the past I’ve used olive oil and it was just a little too heavy for me.
Here is what you need to fill a 1/2 pint mason jar: (In the video and image below I show a full pint size mason jar and but realize later that it’s too large… Oops.)
1/2 cup sugar (I used natural sugar from cane juice)
1/4 cup of sea salt (I used coarse sea salt)
1/4 cup of vegetable glycerin
1/4 cup of almond oil
10-20 drops of lemongrass essential oil
1 tsp – 1 tbsp lemon zest

Just mix the sugar, salt and oils together. Add the essential oil, zest your lemon, mix and scoop into your jar.
It smells so yummy and makes your skin super soft.
I hope you give this one a try for yourself or as a gift. Mother’s Day is coming up…
